Since it is Academy Award season, it would be remiss of those of us here at Halos Daily to not provide a quick remembrance of one of the funniest movies ever made — 1988′s The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!”
This film is particularly of note as former Angels outfielder/designated hitter Reggie Jackson has a prominent role during the climax of the film as “Angel Right Fielder.” Jackson has had his mind programmed by the bad guy to assassinate Queen Elizabeth II during the seventh inning stretch of a Mariners-Angels game. And for you old time Halos fans, former Angels announcer Dick Enberg (1969-1978, and 1985) is also in the film, making a cameo during the baseball bloopers section.
The film grossed $78M at the box office, and it has an 89% approval rating at Rotten Tomatoes with an ERA+ of 156 and an excellent wOBA against left-handed pitchers.
“Hey look, it’s Enrico Pallazzo!”
In his review over at IMDb, Mister-6 says, “The movie even finds good moments for John Houseman and Reggie Jackson.” Fine praise indeed for a fine performance in a fine movie.
“I promise you, whatever scum did this, not one man on this force will rest one minute until he’s behind bars. Now let’s get something to eat.”
